Nagpur is located in the state of Maharashtra and is one of India’s fastest developing Tier III cities. The city is strategically located at the geometrical center of India, and is easily accessible by road and rail. The city has a strong education base, with 21 engineering colleges providing a quality supply of labour, making it an attractive location for companies.
The government of Maharastra has established the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (‘MIHAN’) in the south-west of the city. Integrated with the development of MIHAN, a Special Economic Zone is to be set up and include an IT City. The IT City will cover an area of 400 hectares and house BPO activities, call centers, data centers, software production houses, animation studios and other similar operations.
The IT city will be a self-contained and have world-class infrastructure. Leading IT Companies have already shown interest and Satyam Computer Services have signed a MOU for 100 Acres of land to establish a campus. [Boeing is also planning to establish a repair and overhauling facility spread over a 40 acre site].
To cater for the expansion of the city approximately 13 townships are expected to be developed in the city in the next 3 - 4 years, and an estimated 2,737 acres of township developments by 2015. These developments will be predominately in all directions on the periphery of the existing city.
